Dr. José António Ferraz is a Medical director of the Palliative Care Service of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology - Porto Centre – from 1994 to March 2002 and from 2007 until now. This Hospital is one of the most important Portuguese oncology centres. This is the first Portuguese palliative care unit. He is the Founder and first president of the Portuguese Association for Palliative Care and also the Member of the Local Ethical Committee of the Portuguese Medical Association and Member of the Steering Committee of the Research Network of the European Association for Palliative Care His research interests are Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, Chronic Pain
