Thomas Lion

biography

Thomas Lion received his MD in 1984 from the University of Vienna, Austria, and his PhD in 1995 from the Charles University, Prague, CR. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Chicago, USA, and was appointed as professor at the University of Vienna in 1997. He is a certified specialist in laboratory medicine (1993), pediatrics (with focus on hemato-oncology; 1996), and human genetics (1997). Prof.Lion is head of the Division for Molecular Microbiology at the Children´s Cancer Research Institute (CCRI), Medical Director of the diagnostic center LabDia Labordiagnostik Vienna, Austria, and chairman of the Scientific Board of the Austrian Society of Pediatrics: He has published numerous papers on leukemia and infectious diseases in the immunocompromised host, and has been serving as section editor and editorial board member of various journals. He has received 18 national and international research awards and owns different patents on molecular diagnostic techniques.
