Nilufer YILDIZ VARAN – The author was born in Ankara in 1976. She got her Ph.D from Istanbul Technical University at 2013 from the Department of Textile Engineering. She was awarded a grant from the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) at North Carolina State University at Drs Martin W. King and Peter J. Hauser’s labs between 2009-2011 on the area of biomedical textiles and antimicrobial treatments on compression garments for the management of hypertrophic burn scars. In 2014, she was awarded a grant from TUBITAK again for her postdoctoral research at Drs Sam M. Hudson and Alan E. Tonelli’s labs at North Carolina State University at the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering. She has also conducted a research with Dr. Richard J. Spontak from North Carolina State University, from Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. The author is now working as an assistant professor at the Department of Textile Engineering at Pamukkale University and lectures organic chemistry, polymer chemistry and medical textiles. The author’s major field of study is biopolymeric materials into useful fibers and films. These studies may involve chemical derivatization reactions, and the characterization of the reaction products. She has been studying now on the characterization of biomaterials such as chitin,and chitosan. She is also interested in tissue engineered scaffolds and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) studies on the scaffolds. She is a member of American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) and American Chemical Society (ACS).
