Dr. Kamel A. Abd-Elsalam his Ph.D. degree in Molecular Plant Pathology with the late Professor Verreet JA. at Kiel University (2004) and had postdoctoral training in the laboratories of Professors Verreet (Department of Plant Pathology, Kiel University) and Professor Pierre J. G. M. de Wit (Laboratory of Plant Pathology, Wagnigen University). His primary field is Plant Pathology with research emphasis on molecular diagnostics Plant Pathogenic fungi. He has recently entered the developing field of fungal-genomic research. Currently there is considerable interest for fast detection of infection of small grain cereals and detection of Fusarium pathogen complexes in the different regions in Saudi Arabia by using LAMP-PCR. Recently, he focused on plant pathogenic fungi, using a polyphasic approach based on multilocus phylogeny (gene-barcoding) and its correlation with polyphasic characters.
