biography

Maria Kostopoulou-Karadanelli is Associate Professor at the Department of Marine Sciences (Lesvos, Greece). She holds a BSc in Biochemistry (Univ. Paris VII, France) and Chemistry (Univ. of Athens). She earned her PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Athens focusing in the study of degradation mechanisms under specific conditions. In 2001, she started her academic career by teaching environmental chemistry and marine pollution. Her research interests focus on the quality of the coastal environment, and the impact of priority organic pollutants. Research includes the study of abiotic and biotic processes that may influence the fate of organic pollutants in environmental matrices. She has been the Scientific Coordinator of research projects and has participated in European and National research projects related to coastal pollution. She has co-authored 30 peer reviewed research articles, and 2 book chapters.

 Her research interests focus on the quality of the coastal environment, and the impact of priority organic pollutants. Research includes the study of abiotic and biotic processes that may influence the fate of organic pollutants in environmental matrices.
