Dr Phil F Culverhouse is an Associate Professor in Machine Vision and Engineering Design in the Centre for Robotics & Neural Systems at Plymouth University.Culverhouse has more than 80 academic publications, covering topics in computer vision, natural object recognition and expert visual ergonomics. He is co-chair of the international RAPID consortium (Research into Automatic Plankton IDentification) collaborating on the development of open-source software for plankton recognition and was convenor of the WG130 international working group on automatic plankton identification sponsored by SCOR (Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research). He develops imaging and analysis software and instrumentation for in situ plankton and fish identification. He holds three computer vision patents.
